Honey, Local Remedy for Allergy Relief
With Spring in the air, folks who suffer from seasonal allergies may be relieved to find a tasty remedy right at their local farmers market. Local raw honey may help alleviate some of the bothersome symptoms of seasonal allergies by acting as an immunogenic.
Honey has been used medicinally for thousands of years with records tracing back to Spain, Greece and Rome. Dr. Oz calls it “liquid gold” and says, “Try to buy local honey because it helps with alleviating allergies to pollen in your area.” In fact a local San Fernando Valley resident came to the Noho Farmer’s Market looking for just that, local honey.
“I am trying to find local honey in my area because I’ve found in the
past it has really helped, if not completely eradicated my allergy symptoms. I have always had allergies ever since I was a baby and have always been really plagued by turn of the season, Spring, Fall, ragweed, dust, pollen, you name it, I was allergic to it. And pretty, pretty miserable in terms of you know, sleeping and just, day to day activities were different or difficult rather” says SFV local Ashley, known on her blog as The Mixx Chic.
Experts like Lindsey Duncan say that, “Taking a high-quality raw local honey for two months before allergy season can actually lessen your allergies. Bees carry the pollen that aggravates seasonal allergies, and some of that pollen becomes part of the honey. Consuming honey daily before allergy season can help your body grow accustomed to the pollen and immunize your body against it.”
Honey has many beneficial properties including being hygroscopic making it useful to the skin and hair, it’s antibacterial properties make it the tastiest antibiotic and it’s antioxidant punch is strong enough to destroy even the anti-biotic resistant MRSA, and E.coli.
The Mixx Chic adds, “I started ingesting it regularly and found that it really really helped to the point where I had virtually no symptoms, it was amazing. So yeah I’m on the hunt for it again now that I’m in a new state and there’s new flora around me. I’m trying to find it again because it’s definitely worked for me in the past.”
Wither or not honey will cure you of all your allergies woes it definitely won’t hurt to have this delicious antioxidant as a staple in the kitchen.
