This winter was a particularly brutal one for many, even over here in sunny California. While many were proactive about preventing the flu by getting flu shots, they were thrown off by a string of virus’ that put the flu to shame. In response to the recent plague, a string of home remedies have taken the web by storm, or maybe just my circle on Facebook and Pinterest. Regardless in the mist of ginger, wheat grass and ginseng shot suggestions was this diamond in the rough.

A Master tonic. The first encounter was on Heal Thyself!’s Facebook page where the idea to be proactive about having a shield against the cooties of the world. The preparation calls for garlic cloves, white onions with similar qualities to garlic, ginger root, horseradish root, cayenne peppers(or any combination of hot peppers), in equal parts. If you google master tonic a ton of result with come up with different modifications using a variety of herbs.

On the New moon, in the Gaia kitchen it was prepared to these specifications:

Fill a glass jab 3/4 with chopped and grated parts: Organic garlic, organic white onion, organic ginger,peppers.

Then filled the remainder of the jar with organic unfiltered apple cider vinegar.

Close and shake vigorously. Then top off with apple cider vinegar.

Shake daily, we shook it every time we passed it, about 3-5 times a day, until the Full moon when it is ready to be strained and bottled. * The solid ingredients that remain may be pureed and used in dressings and marinades.

This is a great video that takes you through the process, I wouldn’t suggest making this much unless you plan on curing the village.
